Peptic Ulcer and Gastric Secretion in Patients with Liver Disease.

چکیده
Patients with hepatic cirrhosis may bleed into the gut not only from oesophageal varices, but also from a chronic peptic ulcer or erosive gastritis (Palmer and Brick, 1953). It may thus be difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of gastrointestinal haemorrhage in patients with hepatic cirrhosis, especially as it is generally agreed that there is a high incidence of peptic ulcer in such patients. But the reported frequency of this association varies widely (Koide, Texter, and Borden, 1958) and most of the series have been reported from North America where cirrhosis is usually associated with alcoholism so that it is often not clear whether the important factor is the liver disease or the alcoholism. More recently it has been suggested that ulcers occur even more frequently following a portacaval anastomosis operation (Clarke, Ozeran, Hart, Gruze, and Crevling, 1958). This has stimulated the re-investigation of the effects of such operations on gastric secretion in dogs and it has been confirmed that following such an operation the acid secretion from a Heidenhain pouch is greatly increased (Clarke et al., 1958); but the results of gastric secretory studies in patients with hepatic cirrhosis have been conflicting (Ostrow, Timmerman, and Gray, 1960; Clarke, Costarella, and Ward, 1959a; Bendett, Fritz, and Donaldson, 1963). It thus seemed desirable to try to establish whether there is an increased incidence of peptic ulcer in patients with hepatic cirrhosis not associated with alcoholism, for this form predominates in Great Britain. Furthermore, gastric secretion was studied

Galectin-9 Expression Profile in Patients with Gastric Cancer and Peptic Ulcer Disease
Background: Chronic inflammation and dys-regulation of the immune system mechanisms are now well established as primary triggers of gastric cancer and peptic ulcer disease. Galectin-9 (Gal-9) is a member of the galectin family and known as an inducer of cell aggregation, adhesion and apoptosis. Gal-9 interaction with its main ligand T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain protein-3 (Tim-3) leads...
متن کاملHistological Changes In Gastric Biopsies From Helicobacter Pylori-Infected Patients With And Without Peptic Ulcer
Background and Objective: Long period risk of gastric carcinoma in people affected with chronic Helicobacter pylori gastritis is 5 times more than normal people. Perhaps histological changes due to helicobacter pylori infection could be used for screening people at risk of gastric carcinoma and peptic ulcer. Materials and Methods: This study has been carried out as a cross...

Background: Helicobacter pylori is a gram negative microaerophilic spiral bacilli, which causes duodenal and gastric ulceration. Also this organism cause distal gastric adenocarcinoma and primary gastric lymphoma. The most important Helicobacter pylorus virulence factor is cytotoxin associated gene A (cagA) Pathogenicity Island that cause secretion of antibody by stimulation of immune system. M...
متن کاملRegulatory T Cells and Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells in Patients with Peptic Ulcer and Gastric Cancer
Background: Regulatory T Cells (Tregs) and Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs) are two main regulatory cells modulating the immune responses in inflammation and cancer. Objective: To investigate and compare Tregs and MDSCs in peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. Methods: Patients with dyspepsia were selected and divided into three groups of non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD, n=22), peptic ulcer disease...
